pictures of you.

this blog is not sponsored by Metronomy, i promise. but i have to post up the cover of The Cure's 'Fascination Street' they've done. it came out last week on a free NME CD packed full of actually pretty shit covers of Cure stuff.

Metronomy's version was better than all the rest by about 7053 miles of greatness. so for everyone who is usually about a week late, like myself, here it is.

speaking of covers.. i'll take this opportunity to post up a track given away on the Buffetlibre Rewind project. if you haven't checked it out by now.. yeeeeeeeeesh what are you DOING. i've posted about it ten million times already. so have a look.

off off off with your head.

despite it only being March, this year is already lending itself to being bloody brilliant album-wise. i have no idea why i thought it was going to such a quiet twelve months.

i'll keep this snappy as i'm sure you've already downloaded the leak way ahead of it's April 13th release date.

although i was expecting slightly more explosive results from the combination of two such powerhouses in the YYYs and Dave Sitek (of TVOTR legend), the forthcoming album, 'It's Blitz', is a bit good like. filled with numerous synth heavy tracks to get you dancing, the YYYs have tempered their earlier 'Fever To Tell' sound into something a bit more for everyone. 'Heads Will Roll' is my favourite track on the album, with some good old Karen O shouty singing layered onto a background of 80s-esque dark electro-pop.

7/10

utter goodness.

this came through my inbox today and obviously i had to share it with you all. it's a bit brilliant.

i love Metronomy at the best and worst of times, but combined with the fabness of Micachu and the results are that of a match made truely in heaven.

you can pre-order the scarily good debut Micachu album here!

so human.

here's a clip of what is rumoured to be the second forthcoming single from Lady Sovereign. the first single isn't even out yet but everything moves so fast these days i'm sure you all won't mind.
i'm not typically a fan but this track is bloody good. sampling The Cure's 'Close To Me', Lady Sov continues down the more danceable route that 'I Got You Dancing' has paved the way for. big big thumbs up from me. i can see this sweeping across every 'indie' nightclub known to man in the UK. how long til you get utterly sick of it?

the second album by Lady Sovereign is out in April so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

john doe & beatrice.

it's been a long time since i was so excited to post a totally brand new song up here. i've been listening to it non-stop since i first heard it.

John Doe aka Amat Levin is a producer from Sweden. he's currently working with a singer named Beatrice on a mixtape and i am very much looking forward to hearing what else they have to offer.
JD self describes their collaboration as "Nas meets Daft Punk meets Amy Winehouse". not a lot to live upto then! it is pretty ace so check it out and let me know what you think.

we don't belong here.

Violent Soho are a four piece that hail from Brisbane, AU. they make noisey noise and they're brilliant.

it's not quite 1993 all over again but it's pretty darn close. their brand of punk-grunge has gotten high praise from the likes of Lammo and seen them support numerous big alt. names such as The Bronx. with lyrics like "i hate your face" these are perfect songs for the scorned.

whip out your plaid and stop cutting your hair.

years of refusal.

i can't believe this blog is approaching the two year mark and i have yet to gush over Morrissey/The Smiths for all to see.

is an introduction really necessary here? i do have to say that Morrissey is probably one of my top three vocalists evaaaar.

this forthcoming album Morrissey covers old ground he laid out all that time ago with the release of 'The Smiths' back in 1984. failed relationships, misery and loneliness swathed in a bizarre arrogance, the terribleness of modern life. you'd think after nine solo albums there'd be nothing left to complain about.
'Years Of Refusal' starts with a brilliant opening track, 'Something Is Squeezing My Skull', but leaves me feeling slightly deflated for the rest of the album until the final track 'I'm OK By Myself' kicks in. despite this coasting along, the whole thing is punchy and modern in the best kind of way and manages to capture Mozza's essence. a few more standout tracks and this would be such an amazing album.

the album is out Feb 16th! pre-order here.
