la roux.

booyah. i'm dying of a cactus-in-throatitus but this has cheered me up massively:

it's the video for La Roux's debut single 'Quicksand' and it all looks and sounds pretty amazing to me. if you hadn't heard her on the last Kitsune compilation you'll certainly hear her over the next twelve months. she's been tipped as one of the BBC's big sounds for 2009 and i think they might have that prediction spot on.

La Roux - Fascination

also apologies for the slight email backlog i have created the past couple of days. been busy waiting for my hot chocolate to become like Popeye spinach.

lists 08.

so everyone is starting to compile their 'best of's for 2008 and the same as last year i'm really rather lazy. i'll do another "bands you'll think are overrated in 365 days" towards the end of the month because i actually got a couple right last time.

i did get round to doing a Top 8 from '08 for Northern Nights:

1. Unstoppable - Santogold
2. Triceratops (Acid Girls Rmx A) - Health (mp3)
3. I Decided - Solange (video)
4. Love Is A Boat And We're Sinking - Dinosaur Pile Up
5. Dog Days - Flo & The Mach (video)
6. Heart Throb - Be Your Own Pet
7. Paranoid - Kanye West ft. Mr. Hudson (mp3)
8. I Feel It All (Diplo Remix) - Feist (mp3)

(click for downloadzzzz/links to videozzzz)

and a top ten albums for Sweeping The Nation:

1. Santogold - Santogold
2. Elle Milano - Acres Of Dead Space Cadets
3. Metronomy - Nights Out
4. No Age - Nouns
5. The Mae Shi - HLLLYH
6. Blood On The Wall - Liferz
7. Johnny Foreigner - Waited Up Til It Was Light
8. Born Ruffians - Red, Yellow & Blue
9. The Futureheads - This Is Not The World
10. Be Your Own Pet - Get Awkward

not really any controversy to speak of (apart from the lack of LOTP and Mystery Jets and Friendly Fires i guess) and they aren't actually in any particular order.

wow this was an exciting post. haha. i promise to be more innovative next time.

fan death.

no strangers to a bit of blog attention, Fan Death have just dropped the video to their single 'Veronica's Veil' (out on Phantasy Sounds - buy here).

"Bollywood by way of Tijuana with a pitstop at an underwater Fellini dream carnival."

they're playing with Franz Ferdinand tonight at Durrr and obviously i'm not there because i'm highly boring and wanted to get a full 8 hours sleep before work tomorrow. :(

bleeping heaven.

probably doesn't sound like something i'd usually post up here but after listening to the newest Cry Parrort compliation i've fallen in love with the sounds of Fox Guta Daata.

weird experimental bleeping and blooping with a chill-out vibe. but not chill out in a hideously bad way. all made by one guy. that's all i really know! it just sounds ace.

Fox Gut Daata - Endless Hissy Fits

and, like everyone else, i have been bumming the latest SMD remix. check it ooout:

Deerhunter - Octet (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)

sixth sense.

already having been majorly bummed by the likes of BBC6 Music, Artrocker and Lammo, i thought i'd give you my two cents about London based band Ice, Sea, Dead People.

their brand of scuzzy, Ex Models-esque, fast paced rock is incredibly infectious. drawing on influence from sexcellence such as Jarcrew, Erase Errata and Liars this band definitely aren't going to bore you to death like most stuff that seems to be floating around at the moment. check them ooout.

they sent me this wonderfully bizarre accompanying bit of info about the following track:

"It's about a boy from Berlin being inspired by Ziggy Stardust and dressing up with his sister's make-up to dance to David Bowie on some German TV show playing classics from the eighties. I know, I know, THAT cliché... ARF!!! We came up with the narrative after we tried to write a complete song in German - BUT I DON'T KNOW GERMAN!!! HA! SO it didn't quite work and then we added a lot of English words to the
lyrics. ARF, arf and arf. I digress... but... life's a digression, isn't it? Wasn't it? MMmmm. You ever woken up in your life to realise that you don't ask yourself the question; 'what the fuck am i doing?' we've been doing that a lot. It needs no answer, but noise. Attack the banal with noise. I'm sick of rock music that isn't. So fuck it."

Ice Sea Dead People - Justin Klein

also a couple of weeks ago my blog was featured in the magazine Record Of The Day. you can vote for this blog to win an award for 'Best Blog' over at their website: clickity click!

needle in a haystack.

it's always nice when your friends do the hard work for you.

Riot Of The Century are a Manchester band comprised of people with pretty bleak outlooks on life. their cynicism stretches through every corner of their music and is all over their myspace page like a non-threatening rash. they're playing their first gig tomorrow at Star & Garter in Manchester so if you can get down to that i'd recommend you do so. expect fuzzy, analogue-y, JoFo inspired-esque tracks.

Riot Of The Century - You've Given Me Something I Can't Give Back

and then there's Animals Talking. twee indie pop from London that's actually decent. tales of broken hearts and teenage angst are woven into their songs without the slightest hint of melodrama. well worth checking out. they're playing in London in a few weeks time and it's free so you have almost no excuse not to go.

Animals Talking - Letters

ps. stop emailing me for re-uploadssss! it's nothing personal but stuff is available here for 7 days (unless stated otherwise) so just deal with it please and thank you kindly.
