anniversary.

well well well. The Futureheads' third album, titled 'This Is Not The World', has leaked. and i must say.. it's pretty good!

there was always the worry that the album wouldn't be able to top the sound of the second (which a lot of people actually disliked). but never fear. The Futureheads have clearly worked their arses off and managed to return more to their punky roots and create a fast paced and catchy album that lasts just under 40 minutes.

worth the wait? i reckon so.

The Futureheads - Work Is Never Done [removed by request]

it's due out May 26th.

ALSO. today is the ONE YEAR anniversary of this blog. :) so a massive massive thank you to everyone who has ever read all my ramblings/given me a leg up/left me a comment/added me on myspace/sent me free music/linked to me. lets see if i make it through the next 365 days and another 50,000 website hits! x

if you read GWFAS you might have seen a post about a band called Magistrates. or if you read The (e)N(e)ME(y) you might have seen them in today's copy.

following on from and in theme with Monday's post, Magistrates are a funk infused pop outfit from Essex. i suggest you check them outtttt.

this is my song of the weeeeeeeek. it's pretty darn smooth.

cottonmouth

going. to. be. huge.

Sam Sparrow
and his video for his single 'Black & Gold'.

think Gnarls Barkley having a black tie dinner with Calvin Harris. what a super freshhhhh hit making love creating conversation that would be.

make sure you catch him at Camden Crawl if you're going!

kapow!

Young And Restless are a four piece from Australia and they make insanely insane catchy pop punk. but don't think Blink 182. think Operator Please after a heroin addiction.

i love them loads and loads. their self titled debut album is packed to the rafters with songs brimming with attitude and fast paced hi-hat abuse combined with rhythmic basslines and choppy guitars.

it must be love.

because spring and therefore love is in the air here's a ballad (and my song of the week).

Primary 1 - Primary 1's Love Letter To Metronomy [YSI]/[SENDSPACE Mirror]

Primary 1, if you don't know by now, is the hotly tipped Joe Flory who makes insanely catchy beats. i blogged about him in October if you want to refresh your memories!

comparisons to Calvin Harris have been thrown his way but what Joe has on Calvin is that Primary 1's sound is consistent enough to fill an album with tracks of stellar quality, without having to add in those few definite 'singles' tracks to reel in the average consumer.

the track i'm posting is a re-work of forthcoming Metronomy single My Heart Rate Rapid which is pretty pretty brilliant. you can pre-order that here. well worth it.
both the original and the remix are tiny examples of the exciting stuff that's going to be coming from these two artists. i can't be the only person terribly excited can i?

..?

right. so the Mystery Jets album has leaked.

i will refrain from posting up any tracks but why does 'MJ' sound like The Police?? not even just a little bit. but LOADS and LOADS.

'Young Love' the single with Laura Marling is out now. buy here. pre order the album here.

slow kids

Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds are extremely addictive.

they're a five piece from Suffolk and they make delectable pop music. I’m pretty surprised they haven’t exploded onto absolutely everyone’s radar yet. hopefully late 2008 will bring them much success because they deserve it with songs as good as theirs are.

witty and clever lyrics are spread on top of quirky yet unbelievably dancey guitars. their music is jangly, it’s jingly, it’s everything I could ever want from indie pop.

their debut single, ‘Slow Kids’ is released March 17th and you can pre-order it hereeeee.

argh

STOP!
DOING!
COVERS!
KATE NASH!
STOP IT.

some people can. some people can't. you are one of the people who clearly CANNOT.

Kate Nash - Men's Needs

ugh. listen at your peril.

ps. how daft does she look in this video compared to the ultimate geniusness and hilarity of Keith & Chris W.A.S:

vinyl 'n vinyl?

I really must apologise for the lack of substantial posting as of late! Life gets in the way.

Anywayyyy! Oh my goooosh. 2008 you really are popping them out! Albums ‘of yay’ I like to call them. picking a top ten by the time December rolls around is going to be serioussssly difficult.
I have managed to listen to the delights of several 2008 albums, some yet to be released. Already for me there’s been Vampire Weekend’s debut [buy!], Blood Red Shoes [pre-order!], Foals [pre-order!], Be Your Own Pet [pre-order!], Hot Chip [buy!], Elle Milano [pre-order!].. the list goes on.

Just the other night I got my hands on Tapes 'n Tapes forthcoming album. And it’s brilliant. So brilliant.

Tapes 'n Tapes have always been good at making sure they sound like themselves. There’s something modern baroque pop about them, but without the intensity of bands like Arcade Fire, and there’s also that shoegaze vibe, mixed in like a dash of salt to their giant pot full of clever guitars and entrancing vocals.

‘The Loon’ was such a good album and I’m really happy they are following it up with an equally good (or perhaps a better) second album.

Tapes 'n Tapes - Hang Them All (linked legit-ly, haha. just for you XL, just for you. especially seeing as you kicked my arse last time). but yeah. seriously this song is just a tiny taster! the rest of the album is even more brilliant.

it's called 'Walk It Off' and is out on April 8th.
