get nasty.

in a week and a half (roughly) the city of Leeds will be playing host to an insane amount of good bands at the one and only Nastyfest.

the line up is pant-wettingly good, and it is all costing the ridiculous sum of £12. twelve pounds for twelve hours of insanely amazing music. bargains really don't come better than that.

one of the first bands on the day's bill is hey! Panda.

hey! Panda hail from Halifax (home of the fantastic Eureka! museum), and manage to create an explosion of jerky, fast paced, post-punk/no wave noise. the four-piece accurately self describe as "dancepunk", taking influence from bands such as Death From Above, LCD Soundsystem and Q & Not U. their live demos are laced with bleeting synths and a good dose of hi-hat abuse.

i WILL get round to posting about Camden Crawl. except i'm 1500 words into the 4000 i have to have finished for next Monday. so as you can imagine i'm utilising all modes of procrastination very well (wtf is that Facebook Chat thing?) and hoping the essays will do themselves. after that's done i'm 100% university free until mid September so expect a flurry of posts to keep you going through the sunshine!

Santogold's very charismatic frontlady (Santi White) is the epitome of cool in my eyes at the moment. i got my hands on an EP called 'Sex Sells' by her former pop-punk band Stiffed. it's very The Noisettes a la retro sounding basslines with Santi's voice smoothed out over the top and a definite dub influence. it's pretty good stuff!

i know the Santogold album has leaked. i haven't had a chance to listen yet but i've heard it's very very good!

now that the weather is warming up i have plenty of excuse to post songs just because they fit so well with good weather!

Josef K - Heaven Sent [YSI]

Josef K were a Scottish post-punk band formed in 1979 and were many times dubbed "the original indie band" because of their underground success and belonging to Postcard Recordings. they have exerted an insane amount of influence over today's 'indie' bands and probably without most people knowing it. after the band came to an end, guitarist Malcolm Ross went on to join label mates Orange Juice.

i love Josef K and this song is unbelievably amazing. so yeah. listen and love if you haven't already!

anniversary.

well well well. The Futureheads' third album, titled 'This Is Not The World', has leaked. and i must say.. it's pretty good!

there was always the worry that the album wouldn't be able to top the sound of the second (which a lot of people actually disliked). but never fear. The Futureheads have clearly worked their arses off and managed to return more to their punky roots and create a fast paced and catchy album that lasts just under 40 minutes.

worth the wait? i reckon so.

Young And Restless are a four piece from Australia and they make insanely insane catchy pop punk. but don't think Blink 182. think Operator Please after a heroin addiction.

i love them loads and loads. their self titled debut album is packed to the rafters with songs brimming with attitude and fast paced hi-hat abuse combined with rhythmic basslines and choppy guitars.
